A couple of weeks ago I started hosting a group of people at my house on Friday mornings (7am…yawn…) for something called a Spark Group. I was lucky enough to have been asked to join this group by a dear friend of mine who leads the whole thing, who desires to take risks and who is amazing at bringing people together. We’ve only met once and I am learning as I go so I thought it would be best if I pulled over more info about Spark Good and Spark Groups from their website (bear with me, this does have something to do with my Etsy shop!):
All of us have choices — even small choices — that if we moved forward with them would enhance our lives. We call these choices “sparks.” Yet sometimes these choices are easy to put on the backburner for more pressing matters. Or worse, sometimes we intentionally avoid the most powerful choices in our lives because we’re afraid of the change that it might bring about. Days, weeks, months and even years can go by with the same choices looming over us — opportunity standing before us — waiting to be chosen. Spark Groups are designed to help us focus on the choices that could create the most good in our lives, help us to step into healthy risk and to do it in the context of other people making the same choices and cheering for each other as they collectively move forward with their lives.
During our first meeting, we spent about 90 minutes getting to know each other, sharing our stories and discussing our fears and desires. The homework from the first meeting was to take action on ONE thing that you had talked about. For example, call that friend you have been scared to call and say you are sorry. Play tennis for one hour, even just once. And for me, mine was to open an Etsy shop to sell my photography and typography work. Would I have done this apart from my Spark Group? Maybe, but probably not for months. I did it because I was inspired, I said I was going to do it, I want to do it and I am accountable. This is, perhaps, the beauty of a Spark Group.
And I am excited to share that my Etsy shop, Ann Ueno Designs, is officially open for business! Now, the products are limited (ahem…just one right now) but I plan to add more in the coming weeks. So. If you are looking for global photography, I’m your gal. If you are looking to spruce up some of your walls at home or in your office, I can help. Or if you want a personalized gift for a baby shower or a wedding, I can do it.
I’m so grateful for my Spark Group thus far and really am excited to see what happens in the coming weeks together. Here’s hoping for some amazing sparks, choosing the extraordinary and unleashing creative potential! Oh and perhaps some sales on Etsy, too! 🙂
