The Fall Sweater I Will Be Living In

Perfect for work.  Perfect for hosting a cocktail party around the fireplace.  Perfect for church and brunch, paired with a light scarf.  Perfect for running errands in the city.  Dress it up or down.  I am entirely convinced I will wear this sweater 2-3 times per week (ssshh, don’t tell anyone).  The J Crew leather front merino cardigan.

I have been eying it for a few weeks and couldn’t justify the expense.  When I go back to something more than 3 times, it’s my sign that I do actually want it and it’s not a spontaneous buy.  I have tried this sweater on so many times and every time I have loved it more than the time before (FYI I am usually a size medium and in this sweater, I am a small).  It comes in black and navy and of course, I want both but, can’t afford both so per usual, black wins.  I am saving my dollars and hopefully I will get lucky and there will be sale soon so I can snag this up.  And I think you should, too 🙂

Friday Round Up: Denim

With Fall coming, I am incredibly excited about the change in attire that happens as the weather starts to cool off.  Finally I can pack away the shorts that I maybe wore 3 times this summer due to the amazing cottage cheese thighs God blessed me with.  And oh yeah, the bikini’s can be thrown in with the shorts.  Enough said on that one.  Last, all of my capri pants can be stored away.  Oh wait, just kidding.  I don’t own capri pants because, well, they are arguably the most unflattering piece of clothing for anyone who isn’t 5’10” and/or a J Crew model.  Or okay, fine.  They are just incredibly unflattering on me and I am secretly jealous at all the ladies who can pull them off.

Anyways, back to the topic at hand.  DENIM!  Fall is all about layers and naturally, throwing a denim jacket or shirt over a white ribbed tank pretty much sums up what I will be wearing for the next 6-8 weeks.  I actually packed that exact outfit for my trip to San Francisco this weekend.  All this said, here are a few of my favorite denim shirts and jackets that can easily be worn as is or layered with scarfs, tees and the like.  Have a great long weekend and here’s to the beginning of a new Fall season!

Friday Round Up: Twelve Travel Outfits

As you may have seen if you follow me on any social channel, this week has been all about packing and style and looking Euro-chic for Italy.  I had my first-ever packing party at my house where 8 of my closest friends came to give me outfit ideas…and to drink great wine and eat pizza.  Okay, so maybe it was more of a party party vs. a packing party.  But, I walked away with some great tips, some honest feedback on a maxi dress that was not-so-flattering and some practical day-to-night fashion tips.  So yeah, it was a pretty cool #packingparty.

More inspiration for my nights in Florence and days in Milan came from Pinterest.  I found some vibrant shirts, maxi + denim combos, classic jewelry styling ideas and ways to make grays and white pop.  Ahhh, I love packing for vacation!  The problem is I pack triple of what I need.  Hopefully my party and Pinterest will help.

Okay, next time you will hear from me I will be in Rome.  Get excited for the Italian blog series 🙂

Fashion Find: The Perfect Dress for Travel.

T minus 17 days until the Mr. and I (what the heck, did I just type that?!  “The Mr. and I?”  Really?!) jet-set to Italy for a two-week romantic rendezvous.  Um, okay, half romance (Rome, Venice, Livernano, just the two of us), half Rick golfing with his buddies while I shop and eat my way through Milan, Lake Como (ahem, Clooney) and perhaps a day trip to Switzerland.  In my eyes it’s the perfect vacation.

And what does every gal need for a trip to Italy?  The perfect dress that travels well.  You see, my friends, I search high and low for leisure travel clothes since Rick and I travel a lot.  And it’s important to have the staples when traveling.  And in this case, the staple dress. Versatile.  Stylish.  Bold.  Flattering.  Comfortable.  Day-to-Night Transitioning.  Am I asking for too much?  I didn’t think so.  And neither did Nordstrom, thank God.

I am excited to share with you what I believe will be my favorite, over-worn dress of the summer.  Drum roll please…The Joie ‘Peri’ Lace Silk A-Line Dress in jungle green.

Ahhhh.  It was really hard not to get the blue but all my friends make fun of me because I have at least 6 blue shirts/dresses in that royal-y blue color.  So, I ventured out and went with green.  And I love.  And you will, too!  It’s all those things I mentioned above and more.  I can wear it to work with a black blazer, some rockin’ heels and gold accessories.  I can wear it walking around in the city on the weekends.  I can pair it with a silk scarf and wear it to church.  I can wear it…wait for it…wait for it…sipping a glass of Chianti at the Romanesque church in Tuscany that we will be staying at.  (Here’s a sneak peek of the winery in Livernano where I will be doing all this sipping and dress wearing…I think this Joie number will fit in quite nicely with the vineyards, don’t you?!)

And there you have it.  The perfect dress for travel!  What travel wear do you love?  What will be your summer dress?

Erin Gallagher Jewelry + A HUGE Customer Service Win.

ann-ueno-erin-gallagher-jewelryA few weeks back, as I was perusing the Lincoln Park neighborhood in Chicago, I stumbled into a super cute store called Erin Gallagher, a custom jewelry boutique.  There were two very outgoing, friendly women working and I instantly started talking to them as if I had been friends with them for years.  And then I spotted. the. best. monogram. necklace.  You see, I LOVE anything monogram.  I am the nerd that has monogram pillowcases.  I have an abundance of U’s around my house to the point it’s totally obnoxious but I sort of don’t care.  So when I saw this blocked-font monogrammed customized necklace, I knew I was going to make use of my credit card very shortly.  And I did.  I had to.  I LOVED this necklace.  It’s classic.  Unique.  Personal.  And a great price point, given the quality and customization.

Since it’s custom, you have to wait four weeks to get it which is a bummer, but makes sense.  And, since it’s custom, you don’t know what it’s going to look like until you pick it up.  And, since it’s custom, you can’t return it.  It’s a jewelry risk and one that I was willing to take!

It arrived last week and I love it even more than I anticipated!

Ahhhh!  For someone who LOVES hand-written notes, this goes sooo far.  Oh wait, I’m sorry.  In this day and age of all things electronic, this goes SOOO FAR FOR ANYONE!

ann-ueno-erin-gallagher-jewelry-5

Wow.  AND I saw on my receipt they took notes about me/our conversation while I was in the store.  I don’t know Erin personally nor do I know the women who work there, but all I have to say is well done.  And thank you for understanding what customer service means. I have already recommended EG to many women and now will even more!

I can’t wait to go back and play at EG!  🙂

Friday Round Up: Anthropologie Finds for Italy

From January 1 – March 31 of this year, I committed to not shopping.  Yes, not shopping for three months.  No clothes, shoes, purses, jewelry.  Nada.  Well, anything in the home decor category was waived.  Come on, it was a good step in the right direction, give me a break!  Anyways, now that I am back in the fashion world, I have one mission which is to ensure my suitcase is well-equipped when we jet-set to Italy in June.  So when I was at the new Anthropologie in Chicago, my heart went pitter-patter for some of these bold colors, flattering tees, flirty maxi dresses and more (including some gifts).  Oh and full credit to my friend Vaneesha for number eight below…she bought it, I copied.  Yes, she’s that great of a friend.

Weekend Discovery: The Coveteur

ann-written-notes-the-coveteur2In the world of social media, incredible creatives and websites and blogs galore, it can be hard to know where to go for what.  And when I was taking a leisurely stroll online over the weekend, I came across what I think will be a potentially fabulous, inspiring, useful and, ahem, a home and fashion lovers cyber paradise.  You know, where you can go for, um, whatever you want I suppose.

I bring you The Coveteur.  I actually don’t like the true meaning behind the name – or maybe I just hate the word covet – but I credit them as it’s creative and spot on for what their business is offering.  What I have gathered is they curate home and fashion items in a deliciously visual way (less overwhelming than Pinterest, but similar and classier) with sources and links to shop directly from the site.  Groundbreaking?  Not entirely.  Different?  Yes.  Better than what you have seen before? A for sure yes.

ann-written-notes-the-coveteurHere’s what The Coveteur says about their business (image and text sources http://www.thecoveteur.com):

The Coveteur takes you inside the homes and closets of today’s tastemakers and influential icons so you can discover and shop their unique style.

  • The Coveteur offers exclusive content, photography and videos from the homes of the most notable names in fashion and pop culture.
  • We connect a community of style-obsessed readers from across the globe to collect and share their favorite fashion images.
  • And, The Coveteur is a one-stop shopping destination where consumers can “Get The Look” of their favorite Coveteurs with just a click (or two!) of a button.

They collaborate.  They edit.  They have coveteurs.  It’s fun.  Take a peak at one of their latest featured Coveteurs, Emily Schuman.
